The temperatures have started cooling down and there is a crisp nip in the air.  Fall is upon us.  With the changing season, many could find themselves dreading this time of year because of fall allergies.  According to the-the Center for Disease Control (CDC), allergies are an overreaction of the immune system to substances that generally do not affect other individuals.  Knowing your fall allergy symptoms and how to alleviate allergies can allow you to enjoy the fall weather.  So grab a hot cup of apple cider and wrap yourself in your most comfortable fleece blanket and let’s go over the basics of fall allergies.

Fall Allergy Symptoms:

Allergy symptoms can include the following:

  • Runny and/or itchy nose
  • Sneezing
  • Watery and/or itchy eyes
  • Coughing
  • Dark circles

Treatment for allergies:

Allergy symptoms can be treated using several different methods. 

  • Over the counter medications such as nasal sprays, oral medication, etc.
  • Nasal wash. (Please read directions carefully when attempting to use a nasal wash)
  • Dehumidifier
  • Getting enough rest
  • Staying indoors when allergens are high.  Websites such as The Weather Channel, can help you determine if the allergen level in your area is acceptable.
  • Be sure to clean all air ducts in your home and change the filters.
