John Julian joined NextCare Urgent Care in June 2010 as the President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Julian has over 20 years of experience successfully operating a wide range of health care services companies including medical equipment, respiratory services, pharmaceuticals, infusion therapy and urgent care. In addition, Mr Julian has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining NextCare Urgent Care, Mr. Julian spent several years founding and operating start-up companies in the pharmacy and personal services industries and provided consulting services for mergers and acquisitions in the Health Care industry. Previously Mr. Julian held executive level positions with Lincare Holdings, the nation’s largest provider of respiratory therapy and other in-home patient services. A native of Phoenix and a graduate of the University of Arizona, Mr. Julian serves as a member of the Phoenix Thunderbirds, Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and is a former director of the Foundation for Blind Children.
Rex T. Clevenger joined NextCare in 2015 as Chief Financial Officer. He has over 30 years of financial experience, including public accounting, commercial / investment banking and corporate finance roles in both public and private equity owned companies. Mr. Clevenger was a financial officer for various energy companies, including Koch Industries in Wichita and Singapore, as well as Reliant Resources in Houston. In 2004, he became the CFO for Universal Hospital Services, a dynamic health care services company in Minneapolis, which was a frequent issuer in the public capital markets. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri, and along with his wife is an avid beekeeper.
Jeff Gerlach joined NextCare Holdings in September 2013 as Senior Vice President of Business Development and currently serves as Chief Growth Officer. Mr. Gerlach has over 25 years’ experience in the healthcare services and the medical device industry, with extensive experience in Business Development, Health System Joint Ventures, Mergers and Acquisitions, Sales, Marketing, and Strategy. Most recently, Mr. Gerlach spent four years as Vice President of Business Development and Acquisitions for Alliance Oncology, a division of Alliance Healthcare Services. Previously, Mr. Gerlach held numerous leadership positions with several other healthcare companies including US Oncology, Stryker Corporation, and Steris Corporation. Mr. Gerlach makes his home in Phoenix and is a graduate of the University of Arizona, where he earned his Bachelor degree in Economics and Marketing.
Laura Becker joined NextCare Urgent Care in February of 2009 as the Chief Legal Officer and transitioned to her role as the Chief Compliance Officer and Secretary of the Company in June of 2010. Prior to joining NextCare she was the General Counsel of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, the Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Exeter Life Sciences, a privately held international health care company, an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arizona and a lawyer practicing healthcare law within a Phoenix area law firm. Between business school and law school Ms. Becker was a Senior Manager in the health care group of a Big 4 public accounting firm where she advised hospitals, medical facilities and government health care agencies in compliance and operations. Ms. Becker holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from UC – Santa Barbara, an MBA in Accounting and Finance from UCLA and a law degree from ASU. She is a licensed attorney and is certified in health care compliance by the Health Care Compliance Association.
Mr. Barragan joined NextCare in February 2009 as a clinic manager in the Phoenix metroplex.
He was quickly promoted to area operations manager overseeing Colorado and Ohio – a joint venture with a large hospital system. Mr. Barragan was again promoted in August 2011 overseeing AZ, CO, NM, WY, and OH. Since 2011 Mr. Barragan has been instrumental in growing earnings by over 200%. Prior to NextCare, Mr. Barragan held progressive leadership positions over a 10 year period in healthcare, insurance and transportation.

Joleen Haxton joined NextCare in March 2012 as Director of Ancillary Services and was promoted to Vice President of Ancillary Services in March 2014. Ms. Haxton has over twenty years of healthcare management with a focus on customer experience and process improvement. Prior to joining NextCare, Ms. Haxton was Vice President of Revenue Management for Apria Healthcare. Ms. Haxton graduated summa cum laude from the University of Northern Iowa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration.
Steven Nussbaum, DO came to NextCare in 2014 with over 25 years of clinical experience in ER and Urgent Care Medicine. Dr Nussbaum graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983. He served as ER Medical Director at Mercy Hospital in Willard, Ohio and Samaritan Regional Healthcare System in Ashland, Ohio before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2000. He then took the role of ER Medical Director at Integris Hospital in Pryor, Oklahoma. Dr Nussbaum and his physician partner founded ERgent Care in Tulsa in 2005. They built a prominent urgent care practice with a strong reputation in the community for providing cutting-edge quality medical care in a cost-effective and efficient manner. When NextCare purchased this successful practice in 2014, Dr Nussbaum was named Area Medical director for 25 clinics in Oklahoma. In 2018, he was promoted to Regional Medical Director with oversight of the NextCare market in Virginia, North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma. He has a special interest in Provider recruitment and retention for NextCare. Dr Nussbaum is a certified instructor in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Dr. Tedesco National Director for Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Informatics Officer
Mark J. Tedesco, MD, MPH, FAAFP, is NextCare’s National Director for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO). Additionally, Dr Tedesco has served as NextCare’s CMIO since 2013. At the time of his retirement from uniformed service as a USPHS Rear Admiral (upper half) in 2011, Dr Tedesco was serving concurrently as a US Assistant Surgeon General as well as the Surgeon General and Chief Safety Officer for the US Coast Guard. Prior to his 15 years’ service as a commissioned Public Health Service officer on detached duty with the Coast Guard, Dr Tedesco spent 15 years as an officer in the US Army. His military awards and designations include the Army Senior Flight Surgeon and Coast Guard Flight Surgeon wings, the Army Paratrooper and Expert Field Medic badges, the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal, Coast Guard and Army Meritorious Service medals (3 awards), the USPHS Surgeon General’s Exemplary Service Medal and the Department of Transportation 9-11 Medal. A resident of Virginia, Dr Tedesco earned his bachelors and medical degrees from Tufts University and his MPH in Health Care Management from Harvard University. Dr Tedesco is board certified in Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine (Aerospace).
Heather Lassourreille Vice President of Corporate Finance
Heather Lassourreille joined NextCare in 2004. She has nearly two decades of healthcare experience and currently serves as the Vice President of Corporate Finance. In her time here at NextCare, her roles have included revenue cycle, marketing, finance, and systems analytics. Through this, Ms. Lassourreille has developed a foundational relationship with the underlying data for our full cycle of business aiding to improved decision support across the company. She is involved in acquisition and de novo growth and works closely with the executive team on strategic planning initiatives. Ms. Lassourreille has her MBA from Arizona State University and served on the board for the AZ Health Facilities Authority.
Jesse Henderson Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Jesse Henderson initially joined NextCare in May of 2014 as the Director of Area Marketing. His current role is Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Henderson is responsible for marketing all of NextCare’s brands as well as oversight to the Occupational Health Sales team. Jesse brings over 15 years of professional sales and marketing experience across multiple industries. Prior to joining NextCare Jesse spent 10 years with Yamaha Motor Corporation working his way into the National Area Marketing Manager role. Mr. Henderson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Bellevue University.
